Looking to upgrade your interview preparation?
In an ever-changing job market and modernized world, job interviews and hiring processes continue to change and evolve. So here are three helpful tips, in addition to the classics, from our specialist recruiters themselves…
-
Get curious
Job interviews are the perfect opportunity to gain an overall understanding of the role you are interviewing for, as well as the team, culture, career progression and any other queries you may have surrounding the position and company you are interviewing for. Never hesitate to ask the recruiter, interviewees or hiring manager any questions, no matter how specific, as this is the best (and potentially only way) you will gain clarity or concrete responses.

Its about YOU
Hiring managers are keen to get an understanding of how suitable you are for the role and if you have the right experience and skills. However, it’s important you remember that people hiring are equally as interested in getting to know you as an individual – it’s not just about matching a CV with a job description. Prepare for questions around your existing skills and experience but also consider what you may be asked more personally. Think: strengths and weaknesses, what you enjoy outside of work and what helps you switch off, hobbies of yours, etc. Even ask the recruiter putting you forward for the role about interests of the hiring manager that you may be able to build rapport around.

Presentation
We have seen the nature and style of job interviews change significantly over the last few years due to covid and surrounding factors. Although interviews have moved predominantly more online and can often seem less formal, it is still critical that you present yourself as professionally as you would when meeting a client in person for an interview. Consider appropriate business attire, having the right setup virtually and appropriate background. If you are interviewing for an accounting and finance role, consider how you would present yourself in an office. Additionally, if possible (and it works for yourself and the client) in person interviews are always a great opportunity to build rapport, get an idea of the office – things you may not be able to gage over an online interview.
Of course, always reach out to the recruiter presenting you to the role for any other helpful tips and good luck!!
