What’s happening in Sales, Marketing & Category?
In our April blog, we highlighted the recent ABS and Seek quarterlies showing vacancies and job ads trending down, meaning a softening recruitment market. This week, Treasurer Jim Chalmers produced his 2024 Budget; an attempt to ease cost-of-living pain without overstimulating the economy. Will it work? Ask 10 economists, and get 10 different answers!
In recruitment-land, we can’t wait to get back to the normal (halcyon?) days of low interest rates, low inflation, good economic growth, and full employment! We’re not asking much, but it does feel, when we look at our month-on-month micro trends, we’re going in the right direction. So, what are we seeing in Sales, Marketing and Category land?
Sales is the consistent market
Demand for the “perfect-NAM” remains high and supply remains low. Employers are wrapping arms around their unicorns, and recruitment has become a creative compromise. Pleasingly, the NBM resurgence continues, and the senior market drips away with role after role.
Marketing is the fickle market
When it comes to marketing, some months are up, some months are down. This month, it’s up! Senior demand remains in the doldrums, but interest in the Fractional CMO (or otherwise known as an Interim CMO), is creating options as organisations bring in leaders for strategic projects. Innovation roles have their own micro trend, with consistent demand. Lifecycle and Automation strategies are seeing more investment, particularly in Financial Services, and NFP marketers are feeling the cost-of-living pressure with donations dropping.
Category is the goldilocks’ market
In Category, the balance is just about right, with a consistent flow of roles from junior through mid to senior levels. With current market conditions, we are having more and more conversations about Revenue Growth Management; so expect some very interesting roles in this space soon.
